The HL Internal Assessment

In this time of remote learning, practising this component can be fun and easy to assess.

Fun because we will deal with different skills and easy to assess because we do not have to be reading but listening to our students and it will give us time to focus on pronunciation and fluency, which are points we do not have much time to work on in face to face classes.

So, once you have picked up one of your literary works and you have analyzed setting, plot, characters, themes just pick one meaningful passage no longer than 300 words (which will not be used in the real exam) and ask them to prepare a five minute presentation.

Now, what do we mean by Meaningful?

• Easy to identify
• Offers opportunities
• Allows the student to engage with the topic
• Allows the student to give a personal response
• Enables us to ask meaningful questions

Why five minutes?

So if we cannot ineract with our students, at least they can send their audios with their analysis.

Not only that, they can also share their analysis with their classmates and pair assess them.

Remember sharing the Assessment Criteria so we are all on common grounds  As the IA assesses productive and interactive skills, we will just focus on the productive ones, this means that we will assess only Criterion A and Criterion B1.
