CLIMATE
Climate is the term used to describe the weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period. It involves aspects such as air pressure, humidity, precipitation, sunshine, cloudiness, and winds, throughout the year, averaged over a series of years.
Students will look at climate as a factor that could affect our society through impacts on a number of different social, cultural, and natural resources.
Students will be offered opportunities to communicate about the topic of climate, by looking at examples of personal, local, national and global interest in a range of subtopics:
- Climate change
- Natural disasters
- Seasons
- Weather; conditions, impact on daily life, forecasts
By being exposed to a variety of text types in relation to the topic of Climate, students will be challenged to compare the target language and culture(s) to other languages and cultures, as well as to other disciplinary areas in the DP.
Through a variety of topics, students will also be invited to answer a range of questions in the context of the study of climate, like the following:
- How do my surroundings affect the way I live?
