TEACHING the 5 THEMES
In this section you will be able to find a range of teaching resources, that can be used in the class to teach the English Language Ab Initio programme.
We have developed teaching material and suggestions for lesson planning for each of the 5 prescribed Themes, topics and sub-topics, as outlined in the English ab-initio Language specific syllabus, that you will be able to find on the IB web-site.
The order in which topics and sub-topics are presented is not prescriptive, and therefore must not be followed literally. We have considered logical sequence in the way we developed contents within each page. However, teachers can feel free to use the resources presented in each section, in the way they prefer and that best respond to the needs of their students.
Depending on the specific characteristis of the students in their class, teachers might find certain exercises and activities too challanging to be carried out in an initial phase of the course. Teachers can therefore decide to come back to those activities later on during the course, or adapt them in the way they see fit.
In each page, we will included a range of activities and exercises that can be used with students to develop the following language skills:
- Productive skills: written expression
- Productive and interactive skills: oral expression
- Receptive skills: reading and listening comprehension
