EDUCATION

Education is the process of teaching or learning, in school or colleges, and the knowledge that students get from this. It can take place in formal or informal settings and it is any experience that has a formative effect on the way people/one thinks, feel, or act.

In this topic, students will also explore Education as the gradual process that brings positive changes in human life and behavior.

Students will be offered opportunities to communicate about the topic of Education, by looking at examples of personal, local, national and global interest in a range of subtopics:

  • Types of schools (private, state, mixed, boarding, home schooling, etc)
  • Equipment and supplies
  • Examinations and assessment
  • Facilities
  • Subjects, timetable & extra-curricular activities
  • School calendar
  • Uniforms
  • Rules
  • Levels (kindergarten, university, etc)

By being exposed to a variety of text types in relation to education, students will be challenged to compare the target language and culture(s) to other languages and cultures, as well as to other disciplinary areas in the DP.

Through the treatment of a variety of subtopics, students will also be invited to answer a range of questions in the context of the study of education, like the following:

  • What purpose do rules and regulations have in society?
  • What is my role in society?
