The MEDIA
Media are tools that are used to communicate messages (media is plural, medium is singular). Examples of media are newspapers, television, radio, printed matter, Internet information and advertising.
In this topic, students will explore media and the ways in which media have an impact on people's beliefs and ideas.
Students will be offered opportunities to communicate about the topic of transports, by looking at examples of personal, local, national and global interest in a range of subtopics:
- Advertising
- News and the Press
- Bias
- TV and Radio
- Types of programs
- People in the media
- The internet
- Social media
By being exposed to a variety of text types in relation to media, students will be challenged to compare the target language and culture(s) to other languages and cultures, as well as to other disciplinary areas in the DP.
Through a variety of subtopics students will also be invited to answer a range of questions in the context of the study of media like the following:
- How do science and technology affect my life?
- How do I use media in my daily life?
- What can I learn about a culture through entertainment?
