PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

This unit explores the concept of personal relationships, intended as the connections between people, formed by emotional bonds and interactions. It will include the exploration of ways in witch these bonds often grow from and are strengthened by mutual experiences.

Students will be offered opportunities to communicate about the topic of personal relationships by looking at examples of personal, local or national and global interest on a range of subtopics:

  • Neighbors
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Work/Business

By being exposed to a variety of text types in relation to personal relationships, students will be challenged to compare the target language and culture(s) to other languages and cultures, as well as to other disciplinary areas in the DP.

Through treatment of a variety of subtopics, students will also be invited to answer a range of questions in the context of study of personal relationships:

  • How do I present myself to others?
  • How do I express my identity?
  • Does the way I express my self changes depending on the context?
  • What do relationships mean to me?
